New details emerge from the Guardia di Finanza operation in Umbria and Perugia, where Italian authorities have cracked down on an Albanian criminal organization involved in international cocaine trafficking.
With the latest six arrests, the number of people detained has risen to 13, including two women. One of them is the wife of the suspected cartel leader, who according to investigations was used as part of the scheme to avoid attracting the attention of law enforcement.
Investigators have discovered that the head of the organization, while transporting large quantities of cocaine, was often accompanied by his wife and minor son, creating the image of an ordinary family. Meetings and drug exchanges took place mainly in shopping mall parking lots, where the family's presence served as camouflage for criminal activity.
According to Italian authorities, the organization was based in Foligno, while operating in several regions of Italy and had links to the Camorra clans in Naples. The group was led by individuals based in Dubai and Albania, who coordinated the transport and distribution of narcotics on Italian territory.
"The association was discovered to have its operational base in Foligno, branches in various regions of Italy and contacts with other individuals from the Safe-Zone of Albanian and Italian nationality, based in Perugia, as well as in the provinces of Rome, Bari and Naples, where links were found with the main Camorra clans. The promoter of the association organized, on behalf of the gang leaders, based in Dubai and Albania, the transportation of large quantities of narcotics, which he passed on to several active cells throughout most of the national territory," Italian authorities announced today.
The investigation began after the seizure of 65 kilograms of cocaine in January 2025 and led to the discovery of a structured criminal network. During the investigative actions, around 40 episodes of drug trafficking were documented, with a total quantity of over 200 kilograms of cocaine.
To avoid eavesdropping, group members used exclusively encrypted phones, known as "cryptophones," which could be controlled and erased remotely.
In one of the operations, the Guardia di Finanza seized around 25 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment built under the floor of a vehicle. Also found were 55,000 euros in cash, a stolen gun and several encrypted telephone devices.
The drug packages bore logos of well-known brands such as "Ferrari" and "Lacoste", used to identify the cargo within the criminal network.
