A serious criminal incident was recorded this morning in Maliq, where during the operation to capture the 43-year-old wanted man Violand Braçellari, the Albanian police officer Enea Mekolli was killed in the line of duty and his colleague Edison Adri was injured.
The perpetrator opened fire on the police after they called for him to surrender, killing the 34-year-old man, while the 36-year-old officer was also seriously injured.
The victim left behind his wife and a minor son.
The event has caused great shock in the public, while the head of government announced his declaration as a 'Martyr of the Homeland'.
Meanwhile, the director of the State Police said that he will head towards Korça, where he will provide a clearer report on the entire dynamics of the event in Lozhan i Maliqi.
In a statement to the media from the Trauma Hospital in Tirana, he said that the Korça prosecutor's office has launched investigations into the incident and he has authorized professional standards to depart for Korça.
"Investigations have begun both from the Korça prosecution and from the professional standards, which I have authorized to depart for Korça. After this moment, I will depart for Korça and from there you will have a clearer and more complete report on the entire dynamics of the event and what happened," said Hita.
According to him, the Maliqi incident is an event that leaves no words.
"The State Police lost its servant. Another police officer was seriously injured and is receiving medical attention. The perpetrator during the heated exchange was also injured and is in the Korça hospital. It is an event that leaves me speechless, I would not have liked to be with you today," he said.
