A large-scale police operation against a group suspected of arms and drug trafficking was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Athens.
The operation is being led by the Athens Sub-Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Prosecution, and eight people have been arrested so far. According to authorities, seven men of Albanian origin and a Greek woman, who is suspected of having played a key role in the group's activities, have been arrested.
The Greek police special forces, OPKE and EKAM, are also participating in the action, supporting the checks and arrests on the ground.
During the searches carried out in various apartments, quantities of drugs, mainly cocaine, as well as a considerable number of cartridges, were discovered and seized.
According to Greek media, investigations are continuing in several areas of Athens to fully document the activity of the criminal group. Authorities are expected to publish further details and the final results of the operation after the completion of the investigative actions.
