Edi Rama dismissed the Director General of the State Police, Ilir Proda, who had long been known as the man placed there by Agasi to control the entire territory of the Republic of Albania, and he did so without prior notice, without much fanfare, simply with a signature that turned Proda from untouchable to former director within a few minutes, while in his place was Sokol Bizhga, the deputy who was waiting for his turn.
Ilir Proda and the entire chain below him were commanded by the 'coordinator', who through his contacts in the State Police; had a powerful economic network in his hands, through which money from illegal betting, fraudulent call centers, trafficking, etc. passed.
Immediately after Proda, the commanding officer Sokol Bizhga suspended Ulian Shpataraku, an assistant in the Information Technology Department, from his duties, and he did not do this simply because Shpataraku did not show up for work regularly as officially stated, but because Shpataraku was Ilir Proda's right-hand man, the man Proda had brought with him, the trusted man who had taken it upon himself to keep the control network within the police alive, and to coordinate the entire mafia operation.
"Operation Broom" aims to erase every trace of Ilir Proda's people, to eliminate every official who had ties to him, to eliminate from the police structures all those who Agasi had placed there during the years of his control over the administration, from the directors of Economic Crime to those of the Investigation of Illegal Trafficking, from the directors of Professional Standards to those of the Border Police, from the heads of police intelligence sectors to those of the investigation of cybercrimes, from the officials who kept that entire network of corruption and interference alive. Everyone without exception is leaving.
Something else happened at IKMT that shows the same trend, although the path was different.
Kresti Çela, the director of Environmental Inspection at IKMT and Ergys Agas's brother-in-law, raped his colleague Fatmir Meta, the director of Decision Execution, in the office, and with him were three other people. One might think it was a common fight between officials, but not when it comes to Agas's brother-in-law and an institution where it had long been said that his people were comfortable, doing whatever they wanted without asking anyone, controlling inspections and deciding who won and who lost.
After the incident, IKMT head Afrim Qëndro dismissed Klesti Çela, Ergys Agas' brother-in-law, also dismissed advisor Ervin Bixha, otherwise known as the "brain" of the illegal action of the National Inspectorate of Territorial Protection, the one who had previously served as an inspector in the south of the country and who was suspected of being involved in illegal activities, and suspended Fatmir Meta, removing all three from their duties, so even in IKMT, Agas' people are leaving, some because of the violence they themselves caused, some simply because the wind changed and now anyone whose name is associated with what was once untouchable is now on the way out.
Ervin Bixha was not just an ordinary advisor, but part of a wider network that also included his brother, Elgert Bixha, both now under investigation by SPAK, both suspected of representing the interests of Ergys Agasi and his group in several strategic businesses, from AKSHI tenders to oil fields in Patos, from controversial projects such as "Manastiri Resort" in the Bay of Manastir to the management of hazardous waste through the company "ECOCLEAN", where Elgert Bixha owns 50% of the shares and is a partner with Idajet Ismailaj, the same one who is building the tourist complex in the Bay of Manastir, the same one who has benefited from clientelism and government interference.
Today, Elgert and Ervin Bixha are under investigation, but their network continues to exist, their companies continue to operate, oil fields continue to be exploited, and hazardous waste continues to be managed by the same people who once protected Agas' interests and who today, although investigated, have not yet been affected.
"Three years king, the rest of your life a hostage" goes an old saying that applies to anyone who thinks that the power they hold is theirs, that they will stay there forever without ever falling.
Ergys Agasi was the king of the Albanian administration for several years, he decided who was appointed and who was fired, he controlled tenders and the police, he had his people everywhere and no one dared to stand up to him, but today he is a hostage to the escape, a hostage to the files that are getting heavier every day, a hostage to the one who once held his wings and who is now firing his people one by one to save himself.
Because that's what happens with people like him: today they fire you, tomorrow they forget your name, the day after tomorrow they erase you from memory as if you never existed.
"Operation Shroud" continues, taking out all his loyalists one by one, erasing their tracks, clearing their names, making room for others to come, until it is their turn to be hidden.
And here we are today, when the same prime minister who for years had Ergys Agas as his inseparable shadow, as the hand that solved problems that could not be solved officially, as the one who took on the dirty work that no one else dared to touch, is today furiously dismissing his people, is cleansing the State Police of all those that Agas had placed there, acting as if he no longer recognizes the one who was once his most loyal man.
