The United States of America has lined up the new ministers appointed by Prime Minister Edi Rama. The US Embassy in Tirana has held a series of meetings with ministers of the 'Rama' government, where they were presented with the main priorities of the US in Albania.
Bypassing media statements or social media posts, the US has decided to deliver the message directly to the ministers. This task was left to Chargé d'Affaires Nancy VanHorn, who outlined three areas where the US requires increased attention.
In just a few days, Chargé d'Affaires Nancy VanHorn has met with Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu, Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Enea Karakaçi, Minister of Justice Toni Gogu, Minister of Interior Besfort Lamallari, and Minister for Parliamentary Relations Erjona Ismaili.
VanHorn has made it clear to Rama's ministers that the United States has at the top of its agenda in Albania the fight against organized crime, considering the elimination of cartels as a key objective for strengthening the rule of law.
Another important focus is that of engagement within NATO, where the US requires allies, including Albania, to respect their defense spending obligations.
On the economic front, the US has called for the creation of fair conditions for American companies operating in Albania. This includes transparency, fair competition, and legal guarantees for investors.
“Over the past few weeks, Chargé d’Affaires Nancy VanHorn held meetings with the recently appointed ministers to new positions; Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu, Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Enea Karakaçi, Minister of Justice Toni Gogu, Minister of Interior Besfort Lamallari, and Minister for Parliamentary Relations Erjona Ismaili.
Ms. VanHorn reiterated the United States Embassy’s commitment to implementing the Trump White House agenda: the complete elimination of organized crime cartels, convincing NATO allies to honor their Hague commitments on defense spending, and fair deals for American companies doing business in Albania. “We continue to work with partners across ministries and institutions who share our commitment to delivering results for both Americans and Albanians,” the US embassy wrote.
