Ministers, MPs and mayors have reportedly placed their family members in key state institutions, from the Bank of Albania and public agencies to local administration. The data raises concerns about the spread of nepotism and its impact on the functioning of public administration.
The Socialist Party announced a few months ago an initiative to combat nepotism within its ranks, demanding that family members of MPs not have any engagements in the public administration. The initiative was presented to the parliamentary group in the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama, while the details were made public by the group's leader, Taulant Balla.
He stated that any family member of MPs who holds a position in the administration should leave, in order to increase integrity and public trust. However, data from asset declarations at the HIDAA show a different picture, where a considerable number of officials, both from the majority and the opposition, turn out to have family members employed in public institutions.
According to this data, the mayor of Himara, Vangjel Tavo, has a wife employed at the Bank of Albania, while the SP deputy, Ulsi Manja, also has a wife employed at the same institution. The mayor of Korça, Sotiraq Filo, has a family member engaged in the Korça Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company.
The list also includes other socialist MPs, such as Pirro Vengu, whose wife is employed at the Civil Aviation Authority and at the same time an advisor at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, as well as Olsi Komici, whose wife works at the HIDAKKI.
Similar cases are also evident in local government. The Mayor of Elbasan, Gledjan Llatja, has his wife in managerial and advisory positions at the ministerial level, while the Mayor of Gjirokastra, Flamur Golemi, has his wife employed in the Directorate of Public Health.
In the same vein, the SP MP, Evis Kushi, turns out to have a husband employed at the Transmission System Operator, while the MP Ervin Hoxha has his wife at the Municipality of Tirana. The Mayor of Shijak, Elton Arbana, has his wife at the Local Education Office.
Other political figures also have family ties to the administration, such as Elisa Spiropali, whose husband is employed at the Road Transport Directorate, or Arbjan Mazniku, whose wife is engaged in several institutions, including the Socialist Party and other public structures.

Një nga rastet më të theksuara është ai i kryebashkiakut të Tropojës, Rexhë Byberi, ku disa anëtarë të familjes rezultojnë të punësuar në institucione të ndryshme publike, nga sistemi shëndetësor deri te administrata e pronave dhe punësimit.
