It is the company "Maritime Logistics" Sh.pk, in which Edmir Nufi, brother of the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, has 30% ownership; created on January 20, 2021 with capital of 100 thousand lek, but for 5 years without submitting tax balances.
In 2021, a month after Ermal Nufi was appointed advisor to the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, his brother's company "Maritime Logistics" Sh.pk was granted a monopoly permit for the loading and unloading of containers and other goods and refugio.
The first conflict of interest is related to the fact that Ermal Nufi is a member of the government, while his brother Edmir Nufi continues the private monopoly activity in the Durres Seaport, licensed by the government.
The second conflict of interest lies in the fact that Ermal Nufi is the Minister of Defense who is in charge of the military border force at the Port of Durres, where his brother carries out activities of loading and unloading containers and goods, which are supervised by the border force.
This dual conflict of interest in relation to the duties he performs as Minister of Defense and superior authority of the military force that controls the border point of the Durrës Sea Port, creates suspicions of favoring trafficking and smuggling by his brother Edmir Nufi, during the activity of loading and unloading containers and other goods.
Indications of involvement in trafficking and smuggling by the company "Maritime Logistics" of Minister Ermal Nufi's brother have been reported by anti-trafficking, anti-smuggling and US-EU partner agencies, but Albanian law enforcement structures are not acting.
We are not saying that Minister Ermal Nufi's family members should not run businesses, but it is a conflict of interest for them to receive service permits and a monopoly from the government in strategic sectors and seaports, which are also controlled by the border services under his authority as Minister of Defense.
In a conflict of interest during the exercise of his duties, the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, has been and is also with the construction company "BE-IS" sh.pk, owned by his fellow villager and family friend from Kukës, Hamz Islamaj, partner of his brother Edmir Nufi in the container loading and unloading company at the Port of Durres.
This company has received around 50 million euros in tenders during the years that Ermal Nufi has held leadership positions in the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, and on the board of the Road Authority, the Cadastre, the "Alabbar" tower company, consultant at the Albanian Development Fund, and head of the Board at the "Kayo" armaments company.
