Turkey's first unmanned combat aircraft, the Bayraktar Kızılelma, reached a new historical milestone by hitting a jet-powered target aircraft, marking the first time in the world that an unmanned attack aircraft has been launched indoors.
"For the first time in the world, an unmanned combat aircraft hit its target with a BVR air-to-air missile," the company said in a post on Turkish social media platform NSocial.
According to a statement from Baykar, Kızılelma launched the domestically produced Gökdoğan air-to-air missile, hitting the high-speed reactive target with high accuracy.
The missile was fired from under the wing of the unmanned combat aircraft after the target was detected and tracked using Aselsan's Murad AESA radar, also manufactured in Turkey.
This marked the first time in Turkish aviation history that a national aircraft fired a domestically produced air-to-air missile, guided by a national radar, at an aerial target.

The successful battle established the Kızılıelma as the world's first and only unmanned platform with verified air-to-air combat capabilities.
The new test, conducted over the Black Sea near Sinop province and reported on Sunday, was described as "another new test" and one that reflected "Turkey's long-term space vision."
The test also included five F-16 fighter jets from Merzifon Air Base performing formation flights with Kızılelma in a joint manned and unmanned operation, demonstrating future air combat concepts.
