French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has an interest in taking seriously a tailored peace proposal from the United States.
According to him, this is because Russia is facing military obstacles, and progress on the battlefield is coming at a colossal monetary and humanitarian cost.
“The Russian army’s advance in eastern Ukraine is coming at a colossal cost, with more than 1,000 Russian soldiers killed every day on the front lines... Vladimir Putin must accept the ceasefire or risk exposing Russia to further sanctions that will paralyze its economy, as well as renewed European support for Ukraine ,” he told the French newspaper La Tribune Dimanche.
Barrot hoped the EU would agree to use the roughly £120 billion in frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine at the upcoming leaders' summit on December 18.
