Renowned actor Koço Qendro, one of the most important names in Albanian theater, entertainment, and cinema, has passed away, leaving behind an extraordinary artistic contribution built over more than six decades.
Born on May 15, 1927 in Senica, Delvina, Koço Qendro built his life and artistic career in Korça, where he became one of the founders and most representative figures of professional theater and entertainment. With hundreds of roles performed in theater and cinema, he became one of the most beloved actors for the Albanian public.
One of the most prominent interpretations of his career remains that of Harpagon in Moliere's comedy "The Miser". Qendro brought this character to the stage at different stages of his life, returning to interpret him even at an advanced age, as evidence of his dedication and inexhaustible passion for the art.
He also left an important mark in cinematography with roles in films such as "The Eighth in Bronze", "The Great Confrontation", "The Dawns of the Great Season", "The Decision", as well as in a number of other productions that are today considered part of the golden fund of Albanian film.
Beyond the stage and screen, Koço Qendro made an important contribution to preserving the history of Korça theater, documenting events, memories and figures that have left their mark on the tradition of the Albanian stage. For his artistic activity, he was honored with numerous titles and awards, and was recently awarded the title "Ambassador of the Region" by the Korça District Council, as a sign of appreciation for his contribution to Albanian culture.
With the passing of Koço Qendro, Albania loses not only a great actor, but also one of the most important witnesses to the history of Albanian theater and humor. The characters he brought to the stage and screen will remain part of the public's memory, while his name will continue to occupy a special place in the history of Albanian art.
