US President Donald Trump has said the United States will hit Iran "very hard" if a peace deal is not reached. "We're going to hit them, we're going to hit them very hard, we're going to bomb them again," Trump told reporters at the White House, referring to Iran's downing of an Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.
"I can attack Iran's infrastructure, but I can't tell you for sure. The Iranians are blocking us. We'll see what happens with the deal. We want a meaningful and workable deal," he said.
Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi warned that Iran has proven its ability to respond decisively to US threats, after Trump claimed he was on the verge of ordering new attacks on Iranian power plants and bridges.
In statements carried by Iran's semi-official Fars news agency, Shekarchi warned that Tehran has responded to all of Trump's threats and "will not back down" this time either.
