The White House dismissed Iranian state media reports of a draft memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, calling them "a complete fabrication."
" It is not true and the memo they released is a total fabrication. No one should believe what Iranian state media is spreading. Facts matter ," the White House wrote on the X platform.
Iranian media had previously reported that the draft envisaged the withdrawal of US military forces from areas near Iran and the lifting of the blockade on Iranian ports.
However, some of the elements mentioned by Iranian media resemble previous statements by US officials about the ongoing negotiations. According to them, President Donald Trump would be willing to lift the blockade if Iran guarantees the free passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
" As President Trump has stated, negotiations are going well and he has made the red lines clear. President Trump will only accept a deal that is good for the American people, which must ensure that Iran never has a nuclear weapon ," White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales said in response to Iranian state television reports.
