Former US Attorney General Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after being fired from office by President Donald Trump.

Bondi, 60, has been treated for the disease and is in the process of recovering, according to the US website Axios. The revelation comes amid reports that Trump has appointed Bondi to join an advisory panel on artificial intelligence.

Bondi will join the President's Council on Science and Technology (PCAST), according to Axios. The former secretary has been praised on social media for how she has handled the diagnosis.

"Pam has been quietly battling cancer for the past few weeks. She has a heart of gold ," podcast host and former White House official Katie Miller wrote on X.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, most thyroid cancers are curable with proper treatment. With a five-year survival rate of over 98%, the prognosis for patients diagnosed with thyroid cancer is considered "excellent."

Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, discreetly battled thyroid cancer while holding a senior position in the White House during Trump's first term.

Kushner underwent surgery to remove a tumor from his neck while handling Middle East issues for Trump. And in 2022, after his tenure in the White House, Kushner underwent a second thyroid operation.

After her dismissal, Bondi vowed to "continue to fight for President Trump."

“Leading President Trump’s historic and highly successful efforts to make America safer and more secure has been the honor of a lifetime and certainly the most important first year of the Department of Justice in American history,” she wrote in X last month, adding “I remain eternally grateful for the trust President Trump has placed in me to make America safe again.”
