Hungary's parliament has voted against the country's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC), overturning an earlier plan to exit the structure.

Out of a total of 199 deputies, 133 voted against the withdrawal law, 37 were in favor and 5 abstained. With this decision, it was confirmed that Hungary will remain part of the Rome Statute.

The previous government of Viktor Orbán had initiated exit procedures in 2025, criticizing the court as politically influenced. However, the new political leadership decided to change this position and retain the seat at the ICC.

The previous decision was made shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Hungary, at a time when an arrest warrant exists against him from the International Criminal Court.

The new law emphasizes that membership in the ICC is important for international peace, security, and the punishment of serious international crimes.

With this decision, Hungary confirms that it will continue its cooperation with the International Criminal Court, headquartered in The Hague, which handles cases of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
