Rutte: NATO allies very pleased with Iran deal
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Alliance allies are "very satisfied" with the agreement regarding Iran, emphasizing that NATO has consistently maintained the position that Tehran should not possess capabilities that could pose a threat to international security.

In his comments, Rutte congratulated US President Donald Trump on reaching the agreement, underlining that it is necessary to prevent Iran's development of ballistic missile capabilities.

"We must prevent Iran from having ballistic missile capabilities, which pose a threat to the region, Europe and the world at large," he said.

According to the NATO chief, the threat posed by these capabilities has been "severely degraded" as a result of actions the United States has taken over the past two months.

Rutte also stressed the importance of guaranteeing freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime corridors for global energy trade.

"It is undoubtedly important that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and freedom of navigation is restored. We have heard from many allies who have expressed their willingness to assist in this regard ," he stated.

Referring to the position of the world's most industrialized countries, Rutte said that the latest G7 statement fully supports the US administration's actions towards Iran.

"You've seen the G7 statement that fully supports what President Trump is doing. I think there is broad support and we agree," the NATO Secretary General concluded.
