The USA wins the continental showdown and secures a ticket to the round of 16 at the World Cup. The Americans defeated Australia 2-0 in the match played in Seattle.
The challenge was unlocked in the 10th minute, where after a quick action and a ball introduced into the area by Folarin Balogun, it was the unlucky Kameron Burgess who sent the ball into his own goal.
In the 13th minute, Australia had a good chance to equalize, but Matthew Lackey's long-range shot went just wide of the left post.
In the 43rd minute, Alex Freeman doubled the lead for the Americans, following a free kick. Freeman's goal required VAR intervention, which confirmed the goal was legal.
With this victory, the USA becomes the second World Cup host country, after Mexico, to qualify for the round of 32, while Australia will fight for a victory in the final Group D match against Paraguay.
