Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has defended Ukraine's drone attack on a major oil refinery in Moscow, calling it a response to Russian attacks on targets of historical and religious significance in Ukraine.
Commenting on the latest developments on the front, Zelensky warned that Kiev will not remain passive if Moscow continues its military offensive.
"If Putin does not want to end this war, but wants to continue it, we will not stand idly by, but will respond," the Ukrainian president declared.
Zelensky also sent a strong message to the Kremlin, saying that "if Ukraine burns, then Moscow will burn too."
According to Zelensky, the attack on the oil refinery in the Russian capital was a reaction to the attack on the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, one of Ukraine's most important religious and historical monuments.
"We were at the Lavra and I said we will prepare an answer and you will see it. I think you are seeing it now," he said.
The Ukrainian president insisted that his country does not seek a continuation of the conflict, but its end.
"We do not want this war and we have never wanted it. Everyone knows this, and our partners know it too," Zelensky said.
He also stressed that Moscow's air defenses, considered among the most advanced in Russia, failed to stop the drone attack. According to Zelensky, the target hit was of strategic importance, as the refinery supplies about 40% of Moscow's fuel market and a significant part of the region's gasoline needs.
