Increase in crime, Conte accuses Meloni: Millions of euros were sent to Albania

Thefts and robberies increased during 2024, there is a shortage of 11,000 police officers, unions are denouncing a shortage of 15,000 carabinieri, and boat arrivals are on the rise, exceeding 300,000 under Meloni.

And what are they doing in government? An investigation by Corriere della Sera reveals this today.

They have cut funding for 15 ministries, from healthcare to education and employment, to finance empty centers in Albania.

The President of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, has reacted sharply on social media, as he calls on Giorgia Meloni to reflect on the migrant centers in Albania.

"They have sent our law enforcement officers to another country, budgeting hundreds of millions in expenses for per diems, travel and accommodations, while the budget includes little or nothing for the officers who work for our safety, with insufficient staffing, low salaries and a delayed retirement age.

Meloni must humble himself and choose common sense. Faced with all this, a government has a duty to admit: we were wrong, we wanted to win votes in the European elections and we carried out an amateur operation that does not work.

"Take that money back from Albania. Put it immediately back into the security of our cities, wherever you cut it," Conte writes.
