Iran has put into operation a new mechanism to regulate maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian state television Press TV reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, all ships intending to transit through this sea route will receive an email from an address associated with the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, PGSA. The message will inform them of the new rules and procedures for the passage.
Ships must obtain transit permits before passing through the strait, which is considered one of the world's most important points for oil transportation.
Press TV described the initiative as a "sovereign governance system" and reported that it is already operational in the Strait of Hormuz.
