Epstein File/ One of the victims tells the story: I was 16 and my classmates

Haley Robson was 16 when she was abused by Jeffrey Epstein. Like many victims of the pedophile financier's system, Haley was "recruited" by people she trusted: in her case, a classmate and Tony Figueroa, the ex of Virginia Giuffre, Epstein's main accuser, and Ghislaine Maxwell, who committed suicide on April 25.

“I was at the beach,” Robson recalls, his voice cracking. “I was invited to Jeffrey’s house on some pretext. I drove there in my car. I had no idea what was waiting for me there. I was told otherwise. When I arrived, Epstein took me upstairs. He abused me for an hour.”

According to Robson, the US Department of Justice mistakenly published the identities and photos of dozens of women, who thus became victims twice.

"It wasn't just names and phone numbers. It included Social Security numbers, IDs, addresses, private legal documents, such as divorce records and uncensored photos of underage girls." Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the investigation has been closed.

"Thomas Massie, the Republican member of the House of Representatives who pushed for the release of the Epstein files, said there will most likely be no further indictments. We expected this. It's sad to think that there are bad people, guilty of horrific crimes against children, who feel so comfortable with themselves. The only consolation I have is that many of the men exposed in the documents released by the Justice Department will forever carry a stigma."

You voted for Trump and are registered as a Republican. How did you react when the president called the Epstein scandal a "hoax"?

"I was convinced he would release all the files. He kept saying, 'We're going to be transparent. We want answers.' It's impossible for him not to know he was being indicted. Epstein was practically his best friend. He had a picture of Trump on his desk. I don't even have a picture of my best friend hanging in my house. I think the position of Trump and his administration is clear. He is involved to some extent; I don't know if he was directly involved or if he knew what was going on. The problem we have in the United States is this: we need to launch concrete investigations to understand the collaboration of certain people, including our president, in this story. But the government has made it clear that this is not going to happen. Trump lied, he betrayed us."

Did you meet Ghislaine Maxwell or have you had contact with any of the powerful people mentioned in the dossier?

"Unlike Virginia, I was not a victim of sex trafficking. I was abused by Jeffrey in that specific context. I never met Trump, I was never introduced to him. I never heard his name associated with this story until the documents were made public, so relatively recently. It was a whirlwind for me. I'm surprised you keep saying you're not involved in Epstein's world. Just look at the files."

Many people have raised doubts about the death of Jeffrey Epstein. What are your thoughts?

"I think he was murdered. He was a manipulator, with a huge ego. I've been seeing a psychologist for years. We often talk about Jeffrey. We talk about his personality, his traits, the fact that he was, in fact, a master manipulator. It was his superpower. He would have been able to sell ice to Eskimos. It's hard to believe that a man like him would take his own life. He was murdered."

Today, she is an activist, working to help those who have suffered from abuse, especially women and children. What does it mean to grow up and become a woman after the Epstein experience?

"This treatment by our government has transformed us into courageous women who don't take 'no' for an answer and aren't afraid to hold accountable those who were complicit in our abuse. It means knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We have become the women we needed when we were little, when adults failed to care for and protect us."

Would Virginia Giuffre be proud to know how far you have come, to know that the names of some of these powerful men have come to light?

"Virginia should be here and see how far the battle she started has come. She would be happy and proud."/ Corriere della Sera
