The United States has expanded its military operation against Iran, launching a new wave of airstrikes on targets in the south of the country.
Iran's state news agency IRNA reported that a US missile hit the port city of Bandar Abbas, while the Mehr news agency reported another strike near the city of Sirik in Hormozgan province. It did not immediately say which targets were hit or how much damage was caused.
Meanwhile, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it has launched a new round of bombings against Iran.
"We have launched an additional round of strikes against Iran to continue to degrade the capabilities used to attack merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said in a post on the social network X.
Concerns are growing in Iran about the fallout from the conflict. Iranian journalist Fereshteh Sadeghi said that Tehran residents are alarmed by the economic impact of the attacks and the possibility that the resumption of the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz could hit oil exports and imports of basic goods.
According to her, prices in the foreign exchange and gold markets have begun to rise, while residents are concerned about the southern provinces of Hormozgan, Bushehr, Sistan-Baluchistan and Khuzestan, which are facing the brunt of the American bombing.
However, she said that, despite fear and uncertainty, many Iranians remain determined, citing calls for revenge after the assassination of Ali Khamenei and the numerous victims of American and Israeli attacks.
The new escalation of military operations comes at a time when tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain at the highest levels, adding to concerns about the security of maritime transport and global energy markets.
