Elisabeta Mataj accuses the chief financial officer and the treasurer of theft and falsification of documents.
A new development has come to light regarding the financial scandal at the Albanian Post branch in Durres. It is learned that a day before her dismissal, the branch director, Elisabeta Mataj, had filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor's Office, sent by mail, accusing the chief of finance, VD, and the treasurer, PD, of theft through abuse of office and falsification of documents.
In her complaint, Mataj claims that she had already signaled the General Administrator of the Albanian Post in March about actions she considered abusive by the head of finance and the cashier, also requesting that administrative measures be taken against them. She denies having had access to withdraw funds from the branch's cash register or from bank branches.
However, a day later, the director herself was dismissed from her position and reported to the Prosecutor's Office by the Albanian Post, after an internal audit that revealed irregularities in the administration of payment services funds.
According to sources, during the verifications, a lack of around 700 thousand euros was found in the subsidiary's fund, an amount that is suspected to have been embezzled. Meanwhile, preliminary investigations speak of an economic damage that could reach up to 3 million euros, while the exact value is expected to be determined by the Prosecution's investigations.
The Albanian Post has announced that, after the completion of the inspection, administrative measures have been taken against the employees involved and a criminal report has been filed with the prosecution.
Following the developments, it is learned that the head of the finance sector, Valbona Hoti Duni, has also submitted her resignation.
Elisabeta Mataj took over the leadership of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës in October 2025, replacing Etleva Budini, who left office after winning the mandate of MP in the parliamentary elections of May 11.
The Prosecution is now expected to shed light on the responsibilities of each of the persons involved and determine the real value of the economic damage caused to the Albanian Post branch in Durrës.
