Journalist Enver Robelli has criticized the lack of an official reaction from Albania following the statement by Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Snezhana Paunovic, who said that, if she had been in Slobodan Milosevic's place in 1998, she would have "ethnically cleansed Kosovo."
Robelli said that Albania must take a stand in such cases, emphasizing that the European Union has also publicly condemned the Serbian minister's statement.
"I think that Albania should react in such cases and, ultimately, it would not take a spectacular action, but it would do what the EU is doing. Many European officials have strongly condemned the Serbian minister's statement and it would be logical for Albania to do the same," he said.
According to Robelli, the lack of a reaction from Tirana is not a positive signal.
"Therefore, I think that silence is not a good sign for Albania's state dignity, because when other countries react and Albania remains silent, I see it as quite problematic. I see it as problematic when the Albanian Prime Minister never speaks out on the anniversaries of the Srebrenica genocide," the journalist declared.
During the interview, Robelli also revealed that the Serbian minister is originally from Kosovo.
"This Mrs. Paunovic is originally from Peja, grew up in Kosovo, experienced the 90s and witnessed the repression of the Serbian regime against Albanians. Dreaming of the expulsion of almost two million Albanians a quarter of a century after the end of the war, I call it not only a distortion of discourse, but also a dangerous mental deformation, which perhaps deserves not only political, but also medical attention ," he said on A2 CNN.
