Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu has stated that the figures published by the Democratic Party, regarding the number of participants in the uncontested elections in the DP that reconfirmed Sali Berisha as leader, are not true.
Spahiu said that if 37,000 DP members had voted for Berisha as he claims, only 2,000 people would not have taken to the streets during the protests.
" The whole topic of discussion is why Berisha did not allow elections and competition. Berisha is not afraid of the competition because he would lose to other candidates. He had 2 main problems. The first is that there is no guarantee and fact that the voters were 51 thousand people. I suspect that Basha also lied about 75 thousand, and Berisha does not have the exact figure. And both have hidden the real number of members. Because a party that has 450 thousand voters and has 50 thousand voters and has 2 thousand people protest, here there is an extraordinary problem ," Spahiu said, among other things, for Report TV.
While ironizing the uncontested elections in the DP, Spahiu said that the party that, according to him, created and brought pluralism to Albania, today holds monistic elections like the Party of Labor.
For Spahiu, the uncontested elections in the DP are not only an internal problem of this political force, as according to him, this party claims to bring about political rotation and in the last elections it received a considerable number of votes.
"I think that the last elections have some problems, which in some aspects are problems of the DP and internal, but in some aspects they are problems beyond the DP, because when it comes to the party that claims to bring about rotation or to choose the candidate for prime minister, of course it cannot be simply and only a problem of the DP. Second, since its creation, the DP has had political pluralism as its domain. Even today it has free and fair elections. Now the party that created and brought about pluralism, is making monistic elections. After 4 decades, you are entering as the Party of Labor ", Spahiu continued.
