123 academics from the diaspora side with the protesters, Bushati: The cream of the nation is looking for a new model for Albania
Former Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati has given another striking message regarding the protests that have been shaking the government for 18 days.
Today, 120 Albanian academics, researchers and intellectuals from the diaspora came out in support of the civic protest and the demand for a "new Albania".
Through a public message, Bushati described the support of academics as a high act of civic and patriotic responsibility, emphasizing that there is nothing more valuable than when the Albanian intellectual elite abroad commits to the democratic renewal of Albania.
According to him, Albania needs a new patriotism that centers on democracy, the security of citizens, their rights, equal opportunities and an economy based on knowledge. This is Bushati's second striking message, after a few days ago he supported the rallies and sent a strong message to Edi Rama.
" There is nothing more patriotic than when the cream of the nation in the diaspora expresses readiness for democratic renewal, a new political, economic and social model for the country. For a new patriotism that protects and promotes democracy in every sphere of power and society. At the core of which is the security of citizens, their rights, equal opportunities for all, an economy based on knowledge, solidarity and social cohesion. The battle for the democratic renewal of the country has never been easy nor the effort of a single person. On the contrary, it is a daily collective battle that requires strategy, concentration of forces, ethics, ideas and courage. Our homeland needs a shake-up. The contribution of the diaspora is irreplaceable ", writes Bushati.
His reaction comes after 123 Albanian academics, professors, scholars and researchers from Germany, Great Britain, the USA, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and other countries published a statement in support of the civic protest and the demand for a "new Albania".
In their statement, the academics state that many of the problems facing Albania are a consequence of repeated political and institutional failures that have weakened citizens' trust in the state and justice.
They also link the current crisis to the state of education, science, and innovation, arguing that for decades these sectors have been neglected through underfunding, lack of meritocracy, and political interference.
" Without quality education, without serious scientific research, without innovation and without meritocracy, there can be no sustainable development, competitive economy or strong democratic institutions ," the statement says.
The academics also underline that Albania has been losing a significant portion of its young people and most qualified professionals for years, while expressing their willingness to contribute their expertise and experience to building serious institutions and reforming the country.
Their statement is considered one of the most extensive reactions of the Albanian academic diaspora in recent years on political and social developments in Albania. / Pamphlet

Keto zoterinjt te kthehen te bejne nje parti e te fitojne zgjedhjet. Eshte kollaj te besh trajnerin nga shkallet e stadiumit.
