The Prime Minister reacted after the vote in the European Parliament, saying that the amendment linking the project in Zvërnec to the Vjosa-Nartë protected area did not receive the support of the majority of MEPs.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted after the vote in the European Parliament on the amendments proposed within the framework of the Resolution on Albania, emphasizing that MEPs rejected an amendment that, according to him, attempted to link the planned development in Zvërnec with the Vjosa-Nartë protected area.
Through a post on social media, Rama published two documents from the amendment procedure in the European Parliament. One of them shows an amendment that, according to the prime minister, was rejected by the majority of MEPs, while the other shows another amendment that expresses concerns about developments in the Vjosa-Narte protected area and calls for respect for European environmental protection standards.
" Here the European Parliament separated the 'stalk' of the digital storm of disinformation from the 'sugar' of the Vjosa-Nartë protected area, which has no connection to the development that the MEPs, ousted by an overwhelming majority, blindly introduced as an amendment to the Resolution on Albania ," Rama wrote.
The head of government said that the support of European institutions for Albania's integration process proves, according to him, the positive assessment of the country's progress towards membership in the European Union.
In his reaction, Rama accused opponents of the project of using the issue for political purposes, referring to the protests held in recent weeks for environmental protection in the Zvërnec and Vjosa-Nartë areas.
" Flamengot will be protected, Vjosë-Narta will be protected, Zvërnec will be developed based on an Environmental Impact Assessment according to European Union standards ," the prime minister said.
According to Rama, the development of the project will continue in accordance with legal procedures and European environmental protection standards, while he reiterated the government's commitment to advancing Albania's European integration process.
