What will the new government be like? Manjani: The time of personal ministers is

Lawyer Ylli Manjani has spoken about his expectations regarding the fourth term of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Manjani said that the time when there were ministers with political personalities is gone.

According to him, perhaps the government that will be formed on September 11 will bring something new only in terms of "packaging" and marketing in the way things are presented, but for him, there will be no real change.

" I am more interested in the essence of the government, not in the 'old jackets' or 'new jackets' debate. My philosophy for building a government, as I have it in mind, has declined for years. Since 2006 or 2007, we no longer have ministers who are political personalities. The model of governance with political personalities has declined. At that time, we had figures like Ridvan Bode in the DP or Angjeli in the Socialists. Today, such a model no longer exists. Since 2008 and onwards, this way of governance has died out. Today, it is difficult to see new things. We may have some fresh 'packaging', some change in marketing or in the way things are presented. But whoever the new team is, I wish them success. However, I remain committed to seeing what will really happen with governance in the country ," declared Manjani.

He said that the country is moving towards centralization and emphasized that Edi Rama is preparing for local elections, while his current actions are part of this strategy.

" In my opinion, the country is moving towards a centralization. Edi Rama is preparing the country for local elections, doing the hard work now, while the people are still 'heated' politically. He is entering the territory of reforms that are not usually done in election years. Is this a good or bad model? This is a topic that should be debated publicly ," he added.

Among other things, Manjani raised concerns about the need for electoral reform and addressed the issue of the voting method:

" I'm interested in understanding what will happen with the major reforms in the country. You've also heard President Trump say that voting by mail is corruption. This needs to be looked at seriously. There is a real need for electoral reform. Are we going to allow one person to vote from home and the other to stand in line at the polling station? Some decisions need to be made on a democratic level as well. Or are we going to end up in a situation where someone votes, someone does whatever they want, and nothing happens ."

Following the interview, Manjani was also critical of the justice system, which he called steeped in "judicial extremism."

" I am also interested in whether the new government, in its mandate, will do something about extremism in the judiciary. Politics has its sins, but justice also has its sins. Here we see only prison, prison, prison – and that's it. The question is: what will happen with this phenomenon? Because in the end, it is the judiciary itself that is destroying the reform in the judiciary with its extremism ," he said on "Euronews Albania".

Finally, Manjani called on Prime Minister Rama to be cooperative and consensual with the opposition, citing the well-known agreement between Nano and Berisha as a model to follow.
