DP Headquarters & Protests Today

The Democratic Party was reminded "after the pilaf" to react to the violence exerted against protesters in front of the Parliament.

About six hours after the clashes between police and citizens ended, where there were tensions, use of force, and escorts to the police station, the opposition published a statement strongly condemning the police intervention and demanding the release of all detained protesters.

The paradox lies in the fact that, while protesters were confronting police officers outside the Parliament, the Democratic Party had chosen to boycott the plenary session, following the protesters' statements that they would welcome the Socialist MPs with eggs and honey.

Only after everything was over did the Democrats come out with a reaction, accusing Edi Rama and Interior Minister Taulant Balla of ordering "animal violence" against peaceful protesters.

According to the DP, the police used tear gas, spray, water cannons, pyrotechnics and physical force against citizens, while dozens of protesters were escorted to the police station.

In its statement, the Democratic Party demands the immediate release of all detainees, condemns what it calls police repression, and calls on citizens to join the protest, which it considers the most powerful civic movement since the 1990s.

DP statement

The Democratic Party followed today with the greatest concern the scenes of animalistic violence ordered by Edi Rama and Taulant Balla against peaceful protesters who had surrounded the parliament.

On the orders of Edi Rama, today the narcotics police used toxic substances, expired tear gas, used bear spray, pyrotechnics, water cannons, dragged, and bled peaceful protesters with unrestrained cruelty.

The Democratic Party declares that with these acts,

Edi Rama and his criminal organization reveal their true criminal morality and face to the Albanians. They proved that they are capable and willing to undertake any crime and any act to protect their chair.

Dozens and dozens of protesters were forcibly taken away to be transferred to police station cells.

Once again, we demand the immediate release of all detained, peaceful protesters who were protesting in accordance with their constitutional rights and the European Convention on Human Rights.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms the brutal violence inflicted on them and call on Albanian citizens to unite, to show solidarity,

to support with all their potential the unstoppable success of the most powerful civic youth movement the country has known since the '90s.
