A French citizen and a Thai woman have been arrested in flagrante delicto by the Border Police at the Muriqan Border Crossing Point, after allegedly attempting to cross the border illegally.
According to the official Police announcement, the incident occurred at around 1:00 PM on Thursday, during a vehicle check at the exit of the Republic of Albania. French citizen Tom Haac, born in 2000, who was driving a "Mercedes-Benz" type vehicle, presented himself for the check.
During a detailed physical search of the vehicle, Border Police officers found a Thai citizen hidden inside a suitcase in the back seat. According to authorities, it is suspected that she was being illegally removed from Albanian territory.
Immediately after the case was discovered, the Border Police arrested the driver of the vehicle and the Thai citizen in flagrante delicto, while the first investigative actions were carried out and evidence was secured at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the French citizen allegedly intended to transport the Thai citizen through the territory of Montenegro and Croatia, with the final destination being France, avoiding the legal procedures for crossing the border and entering the respective countries.
The police are continuing their investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the case and to verify whether the incident is related to organized migrant trafficking activity.
