Hearing for the Tirana incinerator, Alqi Bllako seeks innocence: I was not a

The hearing in the Special Anti-Corruption Appeal in the case of former socialist MP Alqi Bllako, who appealed the first instance decision for his 4-year prison sentence in connection with the Tirana incinerator, has ended after two hours.

Bllako's lawyers were present in the courtroom, as well as the former MP himself, who pleaded not guilty with the argument that his position does not fall under the category of high-ranking officials and cannot be charged as such.

However, the prosecution requested the second instance of the judiciary to uphold the decision of the GJKKO, because Alqi Bllako is a senior official.

After the black squads heard the prosecutors' claims and the request of Bllako's lawyers, they set July 23rd as the date to announce the decision for the former socialist MP.

Bllako was sentenced by the Special Anti-Corruption Court on March 11 of this year to 4 years in prison, a sentence which was reduced to 2 years and 8 months due to the summary trial procedure, after he was found guilty of committing the criminal offense of "passive corruption" in two cases.

The former MP was previously sentenced by a final decision for the Elbasan incinerator to 2 years and 8 months in prison, while for the Fier incinerator the case has been returned for retrial by the Court of Appeal in the first instance.
