Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the United States not to move forward with the sale of advanced weapons systems to Turkey, as US President Donald Trump travels to Turkey for the NATO Summit.

In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu harshly attacked Ankara, describing Turkey as "a regime influenced by the Muslim Brotherhood."

"I don't believe they should be given F-35 jets or engines for their fighter jets," he said, referring to Trump's statements last month that Washington might approve the sale of F110 engines for Turkish fighter jets and Turkey's return to the F-35 jet program.

Netanyahu argued that such a decision could "disturb the balance of power in the Middle East," which, according to him, relies on Israel's air superiority and the American military presence in the region.

He described Turkey as "a great country" but sharply criticized President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying the country is led by a leader who "openly threatens Israel with destruction" and "occupies half of Cyprus."

Speaking about relations with the American president, Netanyahu said that a date has not yet been set for his visit to Washington and meeting with Trump, while downplaying the recent disagreements regarding the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran.

"We see almost all issues the same way ," he said of his relationship with Trump. "We have disagreements from time to time, but we resolve them because we are allies," Netanyahu added, noting that the two sides openly discuss issues where they have different positions.

" The president has his way of expressing himself and I have mine. We are allies. We are your model ally," he declared.

Referring to Iran, Netanyahu said the Islamic Republic "is not a friend of America" and should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons or the means to deliver them.

"This is a battle of freedom against fanaticism," he declared.

Asked why the Iranian regime continues to remain in power, Netanyahu replied that it relies on "several hundred thousand armed people who kill their citizens day and night."

The Israeli prime minister also said that Israel wants to see progress in the peace process with Lebanon, arguing that Iran's weakening "has paved the way for more peace agreements."

In conclusion, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States, Netanyahu described the US as "a great force for good," adding that "without America there would be no democracy and freedom in the world."
