Why are the buildings in Tirana burning?, urban planner: There is no planning of

Yesterday, a building near the "Mother Teresa" hospital in Tirana caught fire, causing extensive material damage and injuring several firefighters and citizens who suffocated.

Urban planner Artan Kaçani explained why there are cases of buildings catching fire in Tirana. He said that in the last two years alone, 2 million square meters have been built in Tirana and that quality control is weak.

" From 2005 to today, according to INSTAT, approximately 20 million square meters have been built in Tirana. In the last two years alone, 2 million square meters have been built in Tirana and this would be an overload for many European cities. We are overloading the cities, there is a kind of acceleration like the cities in Asia in the 80s-90s. On the other hand, we must also talk about institutional responsibilities. The blame is not private when we talk about the city, but public. Why are fires breaking out in Tirana? First, we must understand that in Tirana there is no planning of the ventilation corridors, creating strong fire hydrants, explained the urban planner in a direct connection with the "Off the Record" studio.

According to him, on the other hand, we have a very depreciated infrastructure system, lacking dedicated emergency lanes.

" Meanwhile, the parking lots of the buildings on the ground floors are closed for sale, where they are planned to be empty spaces. Public institutions have allowed the private sector to commit major violations at the expense of citizens and the real estate market. This is one of the main factors, we have no monitoring ," said Kaçani.
