Fire in the complex near the QSUT, Karamuço: There were people still

Yesterday, a building near the "Mother Teresa" hospital in Tirana caught fire, causing extensive material damage and injuring several firefighters and citizens who suffocated.

Regarding this situation, criminalistics professor Ervin Karamuço said that at that moment there were still people sleeping in the building, who had to be woken up by firefighters and rescued.

For Karamuço, an electrical spark in these cases could cause major disasters due to the polystyrene cladding of the buildings.

"There were still people sleeping there, who had to wake up the heroes and tell them: come on, there's a fire. There is no alarm system. Almost 70% of the buildings are covered in these clothes. In my opinion, they should all be removed. With an electric spark, there could be a catastrophe. That escalator yesterday belonged to the Kamzë Municipality, because Tirana didn't have any higher escalators. Those firefighters need a higher salary, because they are heroes. The smoke was toxic, you could suffocate in 4 minutes. The helicopter was not effective, we don't have drones that go up to 40 or 50 floors ," Karamuço said in 'Top Story'.
