High Court meeting on detention, Curri: Political VIPs can be released

The Joint Panels of the Supreme Court, in a meeting after many years, today reviewed the change in judicial practice for imposing the measure of arrest in prison.

Invited to 'Top Story' tonight, analyst Arian Curri stated that neither Prime Minister Rama nor DP leader Sali Berisha are interested in changing judicial practice for imposing the measure of imprisonment.

Mentioning detainees such as Ilir Meta or Erjon Veliaj, whom he called 'VIP' detainees, Curri stated that politicians do not want their freedom because they could still be dangerous if released.

"For me, they are all in a terrible dance of hypocrisy, because no one will impose this great injustice on the country. None of them will do it. Neither Rama because he would change the procedural law, nor the lower court because they say the people want them in prison, let's leave them in prison, they say go to Strasbourg. Nor will the high court itself do it, because even when these people went with recourse, it left them in prison. Nor will the Constitutional Court do it.

And he left Meta in prison today with a terrible sentence. "There is a perception even for an external observer that Ilir Meta may have committed these actions". This is an extremely idiotic system from the lower court to the constitutional court, put your hands on your head, in this country you are judged by opinion, perception. It is a big mess. Now for me the only way is for the majority and the opposition to intervene in the criminal code. But do they really have an interest in these VIPs that you showed there? I don't believe that because these VIPs are still dangerous they are coming out. None of them will come out. Berisha and Rama are not interested in these people coming out of detention ", said Curi.
