A statement by Democratic MP Klevis Balliu sparked debate in the Parliament hall, after he implied that the wife of the leader of a political party manages the European Union's IPA funds, while in parallel, according to him, associations are promoted and political parties are created.
"If you wanted to be serious, you might want to talk about the spouses of the leaders of these parties, one of them, who here coordinates the IPA funds, for which Beqja is in prison, this one coordinated millions of euros. Here you keep them and promote them in associations and even establish parties for us," said Balliu.
The statement brought an immediate reaction from Lëvizja Bashkë MP Redi Muçi, who took the floor to respond and defend the wife of his party leader, Arlind Qori. Muçi accused Balliu of criticizing others for personal attacks and ending up dealing with the families of political opponents.
"You mentioned the wife of my party leader. The gentleman in question, Balliu, started his speech by accusing his colleagues of dealing with biography and ended by dealing with Arlind Qori's wife. I don't want to deal with Balliu, nor who he is, nor who his father was, I don't deal with anyone's biography. If someone has a profession and manages EU funds, you should have it as an honor and not give us a clue about what someone else's wife does. This Assembly at this level will end because very soon early elections will be held and people who deserve it will enter", said Muçi.
After this reply, Balliu spoke again, saying that he had not mentioned Arlind Qori's name and that it was Muçi himself who identified the person he was referring to.
"Don't make fun of the citizens as if you brought us here and act like you don't care about the citizens. You deal with the issues that we deal with. I don't deal with personal matters, you brought your mayor out, I didn't bring him out. You know how to talk to him, it's none of my business ," said Balliu.
