The high temperatures that have gripped the country in recent days have led to a significant increase in cases seeking medical attention. In the last 24 hours alone, over 400 patients have presented to the Polyvalent Emergency Room of the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center (QSUT).
According to doctors, the flow of patients has increased significantly due to extreme temperatures, while the most frequent cases are related to cardiac problems, but also to alcohol and food intoxication.
Specialists warn that the heat wave can worsen the condition of people suffering from chronic diseases, so they call on citizens to show increased caution, especially during peak hours.
"High temperatures can worsen the health condition of patients with chronic diseases. We urge citizens to avoid sun exposure during peak hours, to stay hydrated constantly, and to seek medical help if they experience worrying symptoms," the doctors said.
With temperatures expected to remain high through July and August, doctors advise avoiding sun exposure, staying hydrated, and consuming fresh foods.
The appeal goes especially to the elderly, children, pregnant women and patients with chronic diseases, who are considered the groups most at risk from high temperatures.
