MP Marjana Koçeku will no longer be part of the Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee, after the socialist majority decided to replace her with MP Erion Malaj. The change was announced in the plenary session by Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi.
"In the parliamentary committee for stabilization and association, MP Marjana Koçeku leaves as a member and MP Erion Malaj is appointed," he said.
The decision comes just a few weeks after Koçek announced his departure from the Socialist Party parliamentary group, accompanying the decision with direct accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama and the way the party is run.
After breaking away from the socialist group, Koçeku stated that she had received threats from members of the Bajri tribe. She also lined up in support of the anti-government protests, participating in rallies organized in Tirana and publicly declaring that the protesters' demands should be heard.
Her departure from the parliamentary group was considered one of the strongest clashes in recent months within the Socialist Party, while her replacement in the Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee also marks her departure from another function she held as a representative of the majority.
