The opposition's request for an urgent interpellation with Prime Minister Edi Rama on the protesters' five demands was rejected in the Assembly, after Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi decided not to accept it, arguing that the issues raised do not meet the criteria for such a procedure.

Arguing the decision, Peleshi said that the request had a legislative character and was not related to seeking explanations for the activities of the Council of Ministers.

"Most of the issues raised are of a legislative nature as they relate to the amendment or repeal of acts in force and not to the request for explanations for concrete activities of the Council of Ministers.  The request does not accept a separate and independent object that would justify the development of an urgent interpellation. The request is not accepted ," said Peleshi.

The decision brought an immediate reaction from the head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, who accused the chair of the session of obstructing the exercise of parliamentary control and protecting the prime minister from the obligation to be accountable.

"This is a rejection of the parliament, a rejection of the Albanian citizens. Today you did not only fail in fulfilling your role. Today you are protecting the prime minister from accountability. Your duty is to protect the dignity of the Assembly to hold the government accountable. Today you chose to protect the prime minister and not parliamentarism. Rama is a hostage to state crimes and I believe he has really considered resigning, but he cannot do so because he is a hostage to the system he built himself. Edi Rama is not allowed to leave because he still has debts to repay, which he is doing by selling off pieces of Albania," said Bardhi.

After his speech, Bardhi placed his mobile phone next to the microphone of the rostrum and broadcast a video, which he said represented the demand of the protesters who have been in the squares for 30 days. The slogan was heard in the hall: " Rama, resign."

The debate became even more tense when Bardhi responded from the podium to MP Arkend Balla.

"Arkend, the Troplins, the ones who brought you here, will go to prison. I hope you get them from behind," he concluded.
