A fierce clash was recorded in the plenary session of the Parliament between the head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, and the Minister of Culture, Blendi Gonxhja, regarding the concert of American rapper Kanye West, scheduled to be held on July 11 in Tirana.
During his speech, the MP asked the government to cancel the concert, linking the request to the artist's stances. Bardhi called Gonxhe a "certified thief."
"You're talking to us about anti-Semitism? You're canceling Kanye West's concert. Has his concert been canceled in every country because of the positions he holds? You're a certified thief. Cancel the concert and then come talk about anti-Semitism!" , said Bardhi.
After this statement, the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, intervened, drawing the attention of the Democratic MP to the language used in the hall.
The Minister of Culture, Blendi Gonxhja, responded to Bardhi's accusations by defending the organization of the concert and describing it as an important event for the international promotion of Albania.
"Kanye West should be punished! He is a super artist who performed in the Netherlands for two nights, a leading EU country that has concerts in Spain, Portugal, has given concerts in Turkey, Georgia, the USA and soon in Albania. Those who have anything to do with the concert, we are sorry, it will be one of the events that puts us in the international league in terms of brand destination," Gonxha said.
