The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, responded in the Assembly to the Democratic Party deputies regarding their statements regarding the protest that has been taking place in front of the Prime Minister's Office for a month. According to Balla, the opposition is trying to use the protest as a way out of its political situation, since, according to him, the square has been "taken away" by the protesters.
"The agenda of the parliament is determined only by votes and national interest. Democracy is a system that breathes only through parliamentarism. Parliament is the place where the force of argument must prevail over the argument of force. It seems to me that you are suffering from Stockholm syndrome. They have taken over your square and you want to join those who have taken over your square, even though they anathematize your leader. I heard here a member of your parliament who, in a play on words about the names of our political forces, fell into the trap of forgetting the fact that today at the head of the DP is a party secretary.
The only party secretary at the head of a political party today in Albania. At the same time, Enver Hoxha's boatman who rejoiced when he shook his hand. Among you, also those who rejoice when they call out "Berisha in prison." There are among you those who want Saliu to go and hope he will protest. Protests defeated you, but protests cannot defeat us. No one can defeat the Socialist Party of Albania", said Balla.
Further, the head of the socialist parliamentary group stated that the Democratic Party should not hope that the protest will get it out of the political crisis.
"This protest does not save the DP. The spirit of the protest is anti-establishment for those who understand it. A new DP will not be born from this protest, while we, the SP, have a very young one. Only ideological parties can be born," he said.
At the end of the debate, the Assembly rejected the motion with debate requested by the Democratic Party on the five demands of the protesters. The motion did not receive the necessary votes, being rejected with 75 votes against and 19 votes in favor.
