"What does my job have to do with it, mother? My job, that's what... if they had targeted us... they would have come and killed us..."
This wiretap fragment, where Public Procurement Commission official Lindita Skeja is heard during a conversation with her mother, has been published by the media and brings to light a serious story that has been kept silent for almost five years.
It concerns a spectacular robbery that took place in 2020 at the apartment of her brother, Gëzim Skeja, in the village of Dorëz in Librazhd, where around 200 thousand euros and a considerable amount of pounds were taken. The incident was discovered quite by chance by SPAK, during the interception of the file that led to the investigation and the arrest of the head of the Public Procurement Commission, Jonaid Myzyri, for tender manipulation and violation of equality in public competitions.
SPAK has singled out the robbery as a separate case and has opened criminal proceedings to investigate the source of the money found in the Skeja family home. In her testimony, Lindita Skeja claimed that the money was savings from her brothers, who had come from work in England. But SPAK is not convinced; investigators strongly suspect that it is money obtained through corruption, given that the official had access to major public procurements.
According to the testimony, four armed men, masked and dressed in police uniforms, entered the apartment where she, her mother, her brother and her three children were. One of them put a gun to her head, while the others searched the apartment and took the brother hostage, then left him in the village of Labinot in Elbasan – to buy time and ensure that they could leave without being pursued by the police.
Today, five years later, the file is still without authors. Although SPAK has requested the file from the Elbasan Prosecutor's Office, it turns out to be "stuck" in the State Police's drawers. It is not known whether this is negligence, incompetence or a deliberate cover-up.
