According to reports in the Italian daily "Corriere della Sera", the problems in the world of arbitration in Italy continue to deepen. The position of the former head of arbitration, Gianluca Roki, has been further complicated, after the Prosecutor's Office has summoned him again for questioning regarding a new matter, different from that of the investigations launched on April 24.
The investigations have been expanded and are no longer limited to just three matches from last season – Inter-Verona (3 May 2025), Bologna-Inter (20 April 2025) and the Coppa Italia derby between Inter and Milan (23 April 2025). The focus of prosecutors has also been placed on the Torino-Inter match, which took place on 26 April this year.
According to the Prosecution's suspicions, Roki appointed referee Mauricio Mariani to officiate this match only after receiving the approval of Inter's management, who, according to the investigation, did not consider Mariani an unwanted referee.
Meanwhile, the framework of the charges has also changed significantly. Instead of the initial suspicion of "fraudulently accepting interference with the aim of altering the orderly conduct of the competition," prosecutors are now investigating the criminal offense of sports fraud.
According to the indictment, Roki is suspected of having acted in collaboration with Inter representatives and based on a prior agreement with them.
Prosecutors also allege that this collaboration was supported by preferential relations at the highest levels of Italian football. According to them, Inter executives benefited from privileged connections with Gabriele Gravina, the former president of the Italian Football Federation.
