The Albanian national football team was narrowly defeated 0-1 by Israel in the first friendly match held on Wednesday. The Red and Blacks will return to the field on Saturday, when they will face Luxembourg at the “Air Albania” stadium, starting at 20:00.
After the match with Israel, defender Mario Mitaj gave an interview to the official channel of the Albanian Football Federation, where he praised the team's performance despite the negative result.
" To be honest, for me it was a positive test. We played a good match with many positive things. Normally we have to have negative things that we need to improve. I believe we just need to sort out some things with the coach and in the future we should have as positive results as possible ," said Mitaj.
Commenting on the upcoming match against Luxembourg, the defender emphasized that the opponent does not have the same quality level as Israel, but it remains an important test for the team.
" In terms of quality they are not at the same level as Israel, but I believe it will be a good test for us, as we have official matches ahead. In this match, other players that the coach wants to evaluate can also be tested ," he declared.
Mitaj underlined the importance of friendly matches on the eve of the National Team's official commitments.
" I believe it's always good to play friendly matches and see what condition we are in and what we need to improve ," said the red and black defender.
In the end, the 21-year-old expressed his gratitude to the Albanian fans, describing it as a privilege to represent the red and black jersey.
" For me it is an honor to play for Albania. I really like it when I come here, because the fans have always supported us. A big thank you for the support they have shown us in every match ," concluded Mitaj.
