Iran will not continue talks with the United States without a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon coming into effect.
In a statement to Reuters, Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah said that Tehran has made it clear to Hezbollah that negotiations with Washington cannot move forward as long as Israeli fighting and attacks on Lebanese territory continue.
According to him, the US bears responsibility for ensuring that Israel stops military operations and respects the terms of existing agreements.
"Iran has informed Hezbollah that talks with the US will not continue without the implementation of a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon. The US bears responsibility for ensuring that Israel stops its attacks and implements the terms of the agreement," the MP said.
He also called on the Lebanese government not to accept direct negotiations with Israel while Israeli attacks continue.
The statements come as Israel has intensified its attacks on Lebanon. During the night and early morning hours, Israeli forces carried out airstrikes that they said targeted Hezbollah targets. Israel described the attacks as retaliation for the killing of four Israeli soldiers by the Lebanese group.
Recent developments are raising concerns that the escalation of the conflict could directly affect diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
