Rama faces protesters

Thousands of citizens have been protesting in Tirana for 20 days, in one of the largest protests organized by political parties, and have announced 5 demands, one of which is the cancellation of the Mountains Package. But it seems that the protests have not bothered Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is being asked to resign.

In response to the protesters, the Government today approved new priority zones for the development of the mountain economy in four municipalities of the country. The decisions affect territories in Devoll, Kolonjë, Malësi e Madhe and Patos, with the aim of promoting economic, industrial and tourist investments.

According to the approved decisions, the designated areas will serve for the development of economic, industrial and tourist activities, with the aim of promoting investment and sustainable development of the territories involved.

Two priority zones have been declared in the Devoll Municipality, which include a total of 29 villages in the administrative units of Miras, Hoçisht, Progër and Qendër Bilisht. The total area of these zones amounts to over 17 thousand hectares.

Seven priority areas for the development of the mountain economy have been declared in the Municipality of Kolonjë. The areas extend across several administrative units, including Qendër Leskovik, Barmash, Qendër Ersekë, Mollas and Çlirim, including dozens of villages in the area. The total area of these territories exceeds 9 thousand hectares.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Malësi e Madhe benefits from the largest number of declared areas, with ten priority areas extending across the administrative units of Kastrat, Kelmend, Shkrel, Gruemirë, Qendër and Koplik. The area that includes Vermosh, Lëpusha, Vukli, Nikçi and Boga alone has an area of over 29 thousand hectares. In total, the area of declared areas in this municipality reaches over 51 thousand hectares.

The Municipality of Patos is also included in this package, where five priority areas have been declared in the villages of Kuqar, Drenie, Gjynaqarë, Ruzhdie and Siqecë. The total area of these areas is around 2,800 hectares.

According to government decisions, the borders, territorial extent, and entry and exit points for each zone will be determined on the relevant maps of the KRGJSH system, which are attached to the acts.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, the State Cadastre Agency and the relevant municipalities have been tasked with implementing these decisions.
