The State Police has raised the alarm about a form of drug distribution in Albania, where substances with high THC content, the main psychoactive ingredient of cannabis, are presented in the form of food products known as "Edibles".
Suela Xhufi, a toxicologist, said that cannabis candies can cause death in children. She added that consuming half of it could lead to serious health conditions for children.
"This is not a novelty in Albania, we have had previous cases. Cannabis candies in children can cause death, due to very high doses. Half a candy can lead a child to resuscitation. There are two types of (adult) candies: those that give them a mood boost and those that can cause reactions, anxiety and phobias," she told "Report TV".
Xhufi also added that children are the most at risk group, as they take it as candy, not as a drug. Toxicology emphasizes that the candy does not have the typical aroma of cannabis as it is produced in a laboratory.
"They (the candies) do not have the typical aroma of marijuana, as it is produced in a laboratory. Today, the science of developing illegal drugs has advanced a lot, because we have more synthetic drugs, which are difficult to detect. Attention should be focused more on children, because they are the most exposed, the child sees it as candy and takes it innocently," she says.
