The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has called for more responsibility on the roads, emphasizing that road safety remains a challenge that requires the commitment of all citizens.
During an awareness-raising activity on road safety, Hita stated that the State Police is entering a new phase of monitoring, where the identification of violations will increasingly rely on technology and not on traditional field control.
According to him, the use of intelligent devices such as automatic radars, "Poliscan" systems and drones will enable the real-time detection of violations, without interrupting traffic and without creating obstacles for drivers who respect the rules.
The Police Chief focused particularly on the violations that cause the most accidents, appealing against high speed, using the phone while driving, dangerous overtaking, and driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
He also emphasized the importance of educating younger generations and collaborating with educational institutions to create a stronger culture of road safety.
On the eve of the tourist season, Hita announced that the State Police has drafted special plans for managing the flow of vehicles, with a particular focus on tourist routes and coastal areas.
"Today, the State Police has entered the era of intelligent monitoring. Our new strategy is based on the principle that technology determines the culprit, not intuition.
Through intelligent tools such as “Poliscan” devices, high-quality drones and automatic radars, we identify violations in real time without disrupting the flow of traffic and without creating unnecessary stress for regular drivers. This is an important step towards more professional, more accurate and more transparent policing, but technology cannot save us if awareness is lacking. Therefore, I take this opportunity to make a call to all drivers:
-Speed kills. Don't rush to arrive a few minutes early, risking never arriving or arriving crippled!
-Wrong overtaking is a game with life;
-A cell phone at the wheel blinds you for seconds that could be fatal, and above all
-Alcohol and other substances have no place behind the wheel! Anyone who drives a vehicle under the influence of them is not driving a car, but a weapon that risks killing lives.
Equally important is the dimension of prevention and education. Awareness-raising messages for drivers are essential to change behavior on the road and increase public awareness.
Cooperation with educational institutions plays a special role in this process. Students and young people are the generation that shapes the future culture of road traffic, so educating them from an early age is the most important investment for a safer Albania.
This is why we are strongly collaborating with educational institutions, because our children and students have an extraordinary awareness-raising impact. When a child tells a parent in the car, "Fasten your seat belt!" or "Stop talking on the phone!", that message is worth more than dozens of police fines.
This activity takes on even more specific importance today, as we are at the peak of the tourist season and road safety has a special importance in the smooth running of this season, despite the fact that in recent years Albania has been in tourist season almost all year round.
For this fact, the State Police is on full alert. We have drafted detailed plans of measures to manage the large flow of vehicles that multiply during the summer. Our focus will be maximum on traffic hotspots, on coastal and tourist axes, enabling the increase of road safety parameters, the facilitation of traffic and a more welcoming and professional service for every citizen and tourist who chooses our country", said Hita, among other things.
