Morocco players celebrate the goal

Saibari's goal decided the match in Boston, Scotland only risked the opposing goal in the final minutes...

Morocco secured a crucial 1-0 win over Scotland in Group C, taking a big step towards the next stage of the tournament. The African team was clearly the better team throughout the match in Boston and, thanks to this success, they move up to four points, while in the final match they will face Haiti, on paper the easiest opponent in the group. Scotland remains with three points and in the final week they will face Brazil. Based on their performance against Morocco, Steve Clarke's team did not show that they deserved more from this challenge.

Morocco started the match in the best possible way. In the second minute, Brahim Diaz played a brilliant pass deep into the box and Abdelhamid Saibari broke through the Scottish defence, calmly slotting home to make it 1-0.

The Africans continued to control the game and created more chances. In the 11th minute, after a ball won in midfield, Azzedine Ounahi served in the area, but his two teammates failed to finish. Seven minutes later, Moroccan pressure forced Scotland into another mistake, as Achraf Hakimi failed to beat goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

In the 38th minute, Morocco came close to a second goal when Saibari found Bilal El Khannouss inside the area, but the latter's attempt went wide.

Scotland only registered their first serious chance in first-half stoppage time. After a cross from Robertson, John McGinn failed to hit the ball accurately and it went wide.

In the second half, the Scots tried to attack more often, but Morocco continued to be the more dangerous. In the 51st minute, El Khannouss served for Saibari, whose shot was deflected by the defense and stopped by the post. Immediately after the corner kick, El Khannouss tried to head it, but Gunn reacted spectacularly.

Scotland's best chance came in the 63rd minute, when Ryan Christie won the ball high and tried a shot from distance, but failed to find the target.

In the final minutes, Scotland increased the pressure, but without creating any clear chances. Morocco, on the other hand, could have closed the game out in extra time, when Talbi and Amaimouni wasted two good counterattacks.
