A few days ago, news made headlines in Albania that Dinamo volleyball player, Brazilian Nayara Ferreira, had been suspended and the Albanian Volleyball Federation had requested that she undergo a 'gender test', following a complaint from Vllaznia and Pogradec.
Such an event is unprecedented in Albanian sports and the 32-year-old herself felt insulted, complaining to women's rights associations or even to the Brazilian embassy in Tirana.
Nayara Ferreira herself feels insulted and discriminated against, going through a psychological shock. In addition to the gynecological test, she was also asked to take a 'gender test', even though she has previously played in Spain, the Czech Republic, Portugal and even Finland.
There have been various reactions regarding this situation, as the Dinamo Volleyball Club has been sent to Disciplinary. According to a statement from the Albanian Volleyball Federation (FSHV), several leaders of the 'Blues' will be 'investigated' for statements in the media or communication channels. FSHV says it is handling the case according to all statutory specifications and in close cooperation with the KOKSH and international organizations.
"The Albanian Volleyball Federation (AFHV) is following with concern the latest developments related to Ms. NF and wishes to inform the public, as well as all interested parties, that the AFHV has all relevant documentation and correspondence with the Dinamo Volley team, while it is awaiting the fulfillment of its respective obligations to the volleyball community, regarding the resolution of this case.
The Federation guarantees that it will act with full transparency in every step taken during this process, but at the same time expresses concern about the use of this case, which is entirely sporting, as a pretext for violating the rights of individuals or certain communities.
The Albanian Football Association has strictly implemented all legal and statutory procedures, in close cooperation with the Albanian Football Association and its international partners — FIVB and CEV.
The Board of Directors of the Albanian Volleyball Federation has referred to the Disciplinary Committee the cases of public insults and intimidation made by some exponents and leaders of the Dinamo Volley association, in the media and social networks. The Federation calls on all actors involved to refrain from untrue, disinformation or malicious statements, which damage the partnership and institutional cooperation between the parties.
"The Albanian Volleyball Federation recalls that it is the body responsible for the progress, development and organization of volleyball in Albania, and assures all stakeholders involved that it will continue to strictly implement all statutory and legal obligations," the Federation wrote in response.
