Acting Prime Minister and leader of the Vetevendosje Movement (LVV), Albin Kurti, has invited the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Bedri Hamza, the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhika, and the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ardian Gjini, to a meeting to discuss the formation of new institutions after the June 7 elections. The invitation was confirmed by the spokesperson of the acting Government, Arlind Manjhuka.
"Yes, this morning Prime Minister Kurti sent a letter for a meeting to the three leaders, PDK, LDK and AAK ," Manjhuka declared.
The meeting was called on the day the constitutional deadline for the constitution of the Assembly of Kosovo came into effect. The new MPs have until August 7 to constitute the eleventh legislature.
According to the results of the June 7 elections, the Vetëvendosje Movement secured 53 seats in the Assembly, PDK 22, LDK 18, and AAK 7 seats.
Regarding the formation of the Government, the LVV has declared that it has the necessary support to achieve a majority of 61 votes, also counting the votes of MPs from non-majority communities, excluding MPs from the Serbian List.
However, the election of the president is expected to require a broader political consensus. At least 80 votes in the Assembly are needed to elect the head of state, which means that the participation or support of one of the largest opposition parties, PDK or LDK, will also be required.
According to the Constitution, the president of Kosovo must be elected within 60 days of the constitution of the Assembly.
